Viscosity grade bitumen, which is categorized based on its viscosity at a specific temperature, offers improved performance and durability in various climates and traffic conditions. It provides better resistance to rutting, cracking, and deformation, making it ideal for use in highways, urban roads, airports, and other infrastructure projects where durable pavement is essential.
Inquire now Viscosity grade bitumen
is a type of bitumen that is categorized based on its viscosity at a specific
temperature. Viscosity is a measure of a fluid's resistance to flow, and in the
case of bitumen, it is crucial for determining its performance in various
applications, particularly in road construction.
Viscosity grade bitumen
is commonly classified using two systems: the penetration grading system and
the viscosity grading system. While the penetration grading system measures the
hardness or softness of bitumen based on its penetration depth under specified
conditions, the viscosity grading system assesses bitumen's flow
characteristics at a specific temperature.
Common viscosity grades
of bitumen include VG-10, VG-20, VG-30, VG-40, and VG-50, where the number
indicates the average kinematic viscosity in centistokes at 60°C. Higher
viscosity grades such as VG-40 and VG-50 are typically used in regions with
high temperatures, heavy traffic loads, or where higher resistance to rutting
and deformation is required. Lower viscosity grades like VG-10 and VG-20 are
suitable for colder climates or applications where improved workability and
compaction are necessary.
Viscosity grade bitumen offers several advantages in road construction, including better resistance to
rutting, cracking, and deformation, enhanced durability, improved adhesion to
aggregates, and reduced susceptibility to temperature-related damage. These
properties make viscosity grade bitumen an essential material for producing
high-quality asphalt mixes that can withstand the rigors of traffic and
environmental conditions.

This method of bitumen packaging is the most regular used method. The Drums are made of cold-rolled steel in order to protect them against corrosion and are coated with rust-proof black painting.
There are two types of steel drums; Normal steel drums with the capacity of 180 kg net bitumen and short drums which is loaded by 150 kg.
Drums are mostly suitable for container loading. Every 20’ container can get 110 pcs of normal drums.
Jumbo bags request in Bitumen industry is increasing due to their environmental and operation advantages. Each jumbo bag contains 1 metric ton of bitumen loadable to 20’ containers in 20 bags.
Bitu bags of 300 kg are another alternatives to jumbo bags for easier transportation and their potential in maximizing the container space usage.
In this method, the bitumen is transported by heated tankers to the port to be loaded into the special bulk vessels of bitumen. Mostly in 5000 metric ton vessels are used but also other capacities can be alternated.
